The Standard-Bearer of Honey Purity

Our journey to uncover the purity and quality of honey began with Prof. Dr. FG Winarno, a visionary leader and founder, who recognized the untapped potential of Indonesian honey. Despite its rich heritage and unique characteristics, many local honey varieties had not undergone the rigorous testing required to ensure their quality and authenticity, while international brands had already set the benchmark for excellence.
Driven by a profound commitment to scientific research and a deep appreciation for Indonesia's natural resources, Prof. Winarno set out to explore and validate the diverse qualities of Indonesian honey. His mission was clear: to reveal the remarkable health benefits of this natural treasure and elevate it to global standards of quality, integrity, and trust.

April 2020
Prof. Dr. FG Winarno published the Honey Purity Analysis Guidebook.
Prof. Dr. FG Winarno introduces PANDUAN ANALISIS KEMURNIAN MADU (The Guide to Honey Purity Analysis), a groundbreaking resource designed to address the lack of standardized criteria for honey purity in Indonesia. While honey has long been celebrated for its nutritional value and health benefits, myths and misconceptions about its authenticity continue to persist. This guide provides scientifically validated methods to assess honey’s purity, effectively dispelling unreliable traditional tests. As the founder of MBRIO Lab and a pioneer in food science, Prof. Winarno combines his extensive expertise and unwavering commitment to food safety with a mission to safeguard the integrity of honey, ensuring that this precious natural resource maintains its trusted reputation.

Comprehensive Method for Analyzing Honey was Developed.
MBRIO R&D has successfully developed a comprehensive method for analyzing both the health benefits and authenticity of honey. The evaluation of honey's health benefits was based on its antioxidant activity, polyphenol content, and antimicrobial properties. To ensure authenticity, the team employed advanced techniques, including honey pollen microscopy to identify its floral origin, and C4 sugar content analysis to detect potential adulteration. These innovative methods enable MBRIO to deliver scientifically validated insights into the quality and purity of honey.
April 2023
Prof. Dr. F.G. Winarno has released his latest book, MADU: Jenis, Mutu, Analisis, serta Potensinya (HONEY: Types, Quality, Analysis, and Its Potential).
This insightful work explores the fascinating world of honey—far more than just a simple mixture of sugars like fructose and glucose. The book highlights honey's rich and complex flavor profile, which is uniquely shaped by the flowers from which bees gather nectar and the natural processes within their bodies. Through this comprehensive analysis, Prof. Winarno offers readers a deeper understanding of honey’s diverse types, quality variations, and its immense potential as a natural product.

The book answers essential questions about honey production, the various types found in Indonesia and worldwide, and the comprehensive analyses of its uses and business potential. It also addresses concerns about honey's safety for consumption, especially for individuals with diabetes, and explores its health benefits. Additionally, it sheds light on the marketing and sales potential of honey in both local and global markets.
November 2023
MBRIO R&D recently visited Dumaring, located in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, to conduct a thorough Gap Analysis (GAP) assessment.
The analysis aimed to evaluate the alignment of local honey production processes with key standards, including SNI 8664:2018, BPOM (Indonesian Food and Drug Authority) regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Beekeeping Practices (GBP), and the Codex Standard for Honey (12-1981, Rev. 1-1987, Rev. 2-2001).

The initiative focused on standardizing production processes and ensuring consistency among members of the Dumaring Social Forestry Honey Business Group. By identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement, the team sought to support the group in enhancing product quality and achieving compliance with both national and international honey standards.
July 2024
MBRIO, in collaboration with Oh Honey and Aksenta, hosted an event titled "Sharing and Tasting the Richness of Indonesia’s Local Honey."
The session also featured expert feedback from representatives of key institutions, including the National Standardization Agency (BSN), BPOM (Indonesian Food and Drug Authority), Arto Biantoro, a branding expert, and Prof. F.G. Winarno. These experts shared valuable insights on honey standards, safety regulations, and branding strategies, which were instrumental in deepening participants' understanding of industry standards and best practices.

A highlight of the event was the Honey Tasting session, where participants had the opportunity to sample a diverse selection of Indonesian honey varieties. This tasting experience was designed to enhance their appreciation of the distinct flavors and unique characteristics of local honey. Through this activity, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the natural richness and potential of Indonesian honey, fostering a sense of pride and encouraging a stronger connection with the nation’s honey heritage. The session not only aimed to educate but also to emphasize the importance of supporting and preserving Indonesia's honey industry.
